Social and behavioral dynamics play a powerful role in motivating movement, and big data analytics can help discover effective motivations for positive behavior change.
Researchers, including members of our team, have made leaps and bounds in using big data analytics to understand behavioral and social network dynamics, but these approaches have been only minimally applied in biomedicine. We will develop new behavioral models centered around badges and other incentives, as well as social networks, to help us understand how individuals are motivated to perform healthy activities. We will also develop models of individual evolution and determine how to recommend activities that best fit an individual’s stage of evolution (e.g., fitness level).
